Deep-space synth music with the lights dimmed.
Synphaera Radio plays one label and nothing else. Synphaera Records was founded in 2015 by Chris Bryant and Don Tyler, the pair behind the project Ascendant, as a home for modern electronic ambient and space music, and it has grown a cluster of imprints — Aura, Exosphere, Assemblage, Pente — around that catalogue since, along with a mastering house of its own. SomaFM gave the label a channel in 2021, one of only two rooms the station has handed to a single independent imprint.
The result is unusually consistent: long-form, beatless, sequencer-driven space ambient, mastered in-house and sequenced to run for hours at a time. Ascendant, S1gns Of L1fe, Remote Vision and Starterra all come from the founders' immediate circle, Martin Sturtzer supplies the Berlin School end, and Halftribe, Isostatic and Germind fill out the rest of the catalogue.
One label's whole world, on air.
