Deep ambient and experimental for the void within.
Deep Space One joined SomaFM in 2013, arriving alongside DEF CON Radio and Iceland Airwaves, thirteen years after Rusty Hodge moved the station from a micropower transmitter he had run at Burning Man to a full-time internet operation in February 2000. It is the furthest out of the network's several ambient channels, and it exists at all because SomaFM takes listener donations rather than advertising and has never had to defend a slot to a paying client. The brief has not shifted since.
The programming is deep ambient, drone and space music with almost no rhythm anywhere in it — Erik Wollo, Brannan Lane, Stimulus Timbre and Melantopia, with Hauschka's prepared piano and Martin Sturtzer's Berlin School sequencing threaded through it. It is built for focus and for drift rather than for close listening to any one track, which is rather the point.
Headphones on, gravity off.
