De naald wordt afgestoft…
Trip-hop and lounge from the first chillout boom.
Groove Salad Classic went up in 2019, nineteen years after the channel it preserves, and it is the rare room built entirely out of another room's past. The flagship had never stopped moving — new producers, new records, the same tempo but not the same rotation — so the station made a copy and froze the sound at the turn of the century, when Groove Salad was the background of a particular kind of internet: a stream left running in the corner of somebody's first office job, on a connection that could only just carry it.
The rotation is the era's British and German catalogue. Pork Recordings out of Hull supplies Baby Mammoth, Solid Doctor and Heights of Abraham; Beanfield brings the Compost end; Thievery Corporation's first album handles the dub. Harold Budd and Brian Eno's Plateaux of Mirror covers the ambient stretches, and DJ Cheb i Sabbah and Govinda take the eastern detours.
Deliberately dated, and correct.
