CFRC 101.9 FM: radio en directo desde Kingston

Espeeera...

Quitando el polvo a la aguja…

CFRC 101.9 FM

Older than the CBC, louder too.

Dad rock, noise, and Gaels football from Queen's.

Radio at Queen's began with an engineering professor's wireless club, which talked its way into an experimental licence — call sign 9BT — in the spring of 1922. The first scheduled broadcast went out on 7 October that year: a professor calling the Queen's–McGill football game from the basement of the electrical engineering building. The call letters CFRC arrived with a commercial licence in 1923, and generations of student broadcasters have insisted they stand for Crazy Fellows Raising Cain.

A century on it runs at 3,000 watts, staffed entirely by volunteers and stocked with a library of some 90,000 records, tapes and digital files. The week takes in dad rock done properly, basement noise, Indigenous news and music, syndicated blues, and a Saturday night of house and disco. CFRC Live Sessions puts Kingston bands into Studio A and records what comes out.
