Croatia's first student radio: news by day, one-man shows.
It went on air as Vaš radio on 31 October 1996, off a ten-metre mast at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb and on equipment donated by USAID — the first student station in Croatia. Marina Mučalo took over as editor-in-chief early the next year and the name changed to Radio Student; a concession later cut the transmitter from 350 watts to 50, leaving 100.5 FM a signal for the city alone. A flood in August 2024 wrecked the offices and much of the tape archive, and the station set about rebuilding.
One paid editor keeps the lights on and everyone else is a student or a lecturer, which is why the schedule reads as a stack of specialist hours: Šafl šou runs a 500-gigabyte library on shuffle, Zvučni zid has been edited by Dražen Puklavec since 2019, and Slušaj drugačije airs avant-garde work with the Experimental Sound Institute. Punk, psychobilly, funk and art-pop all get their own slot.
Homework you can tune into.
