Radio One 91FM: live radio from Dunedin

Hooold...

Dusting off the needle…

Radio One 91FM

Every hour has a name on it.

Ōtepoti's campus signal, still chasing the next sound.

Radio One has run out of the middle of Otago University since 1984, staffed by students who each take an hour and put their name on it — the grid reads as a list of first names, from the breakfast shift through Critic Te Ārohi's magazine hour to whoever takes the late slot. Ōtepoti is known for the Dunedin Sound of the eighties, and the station treats that as history rather than a format; the brief is to lift whatever the local scene is making, and to be the designated scarfie soundtrack while it does.

It plays indie-rock, techno, funk, soul, drum and bass, grunge, grime, folk, ambient, reggae, jazz and nu-metal, by its own accounting. The Aotearoa Hour of Power opens each weekday morning. The listener-voted chart is a Top 11 rather than a Top 10 because somebody decided to be edgy in 1984, and it feeds one of the five charts in New Zealand's Student Radio Network.
