Dusting off the needle…
Guitar bands and new talent, indie by definition.
KINK FM lost its national frequency and a gap opened where the Dutch alternative station used to be, so on 1 October 2011 people who had come out of it started Pinguin Radio to keep that sound on air. It has never broadcast anywhere but the internet. There are eight people on staff now and a large group of volunteers around them, daytime runs on music alone, and presented programmes fill the evenings and the weekends. The motto has not changed either: no bullshit, great music.
The compilers build the playlists from blogs, streaming services and tips sent in by listeners, musicians and the industry, and they are strict about it. Whatever does not make the station goes onto public Spotify lists instead. The taste is stated plainly, bands and guitars, not too hard and not too soft, with the extremes sent to sister channels and a thumb on the scale for Dutch and Belgian acts.
No bullshit, great music.
