Dusting off the needle…
Slow beats, warm synths, and a few left turns.
Groove Salad has been SomaFM's flagship since 2000, one of the first three channels the station ever put on air, and it eventually outgrew a single stream: there are three of them now. Groove Salad Classic arrived in 2019 to hold the early-2000s catalogue the original made its name on, and Groove Salad 2 took the newer and stranger end of the same brief — the one channel of the three SomaFM never bothered to date or announce. It appeared beside the others and has been running since.
The difference from the flagship is audible. Luke Vibert and Bola bring the IDM angles, Kick Bong and Stimulus Timbre a psychedelic drift, and Mixmaster Morris turns up under his Irresistible Force name. Around them sit European chillout producers — Weathertunes, Thomas Lemmer, Christophe Goze — holding the tempo exactly where Groove Salad has always liked it.
Same kitchen, new recipe entirely.
