Drone Zone 2Drone Zone 2

Drone Zone 2 is the companion to the channel SomaFM started with. Drone Zone went on air in 2000, the first room Rusty Hodge opened, and the ambient library behind it kept growing long after the original stream was full. The second one runs the same brief from further down the shelf, and the station never made anything of it: no launch announcement, no separate manifesto, no start date published anywhere — just a second stream with a 2 on the end, the arrangement Groove Salad has too.

What plays is the deeper catalogue. Stars of the Lid and Cliff Martinez's score work for Narc sit next to self-released names — Igneous Flame, Chad Hoefler, Anomalous Disturbances — and tracks lifted from the Drone Download Project, a community compilation series running to at least six volumes. The blurb promises minimal beats; in practice hours go by without one.
