Dusting off the needle…
Seventies New York disco, mirror ball intact.
Dinamo started as Istanbul's 103.8 FM in November 2003, playing electronic, dance and indie music, and gave the frequency up ten years later to put everything it wanted on the web instead. Nine channels came out of that decision, each one curated by hand rather than assembled by software. This is the one that goes furthest back, to the records the rest of the network is descended from, and it has not widened its brief since the day it opened. Every other channel here was allowed to drift; this one was not.
The remit is the 1970s and the disco funk that set the template: Donna Summer, the Ritchie Family, and twelve-inches like Loose Change's All Night Man, built to hold a floor for eight minutes at a stretch. No modern edits and no revival takes — everything on it was made to be heard loud, in a room, by people who had queued for it. The mixing lets each record run its length.
Four-on-the-floor, no irony.
